THE BARGER JOURNAL II #1759 - page 133 James Preston Barger, son of Ballard Harvey Barger and Mary, nee Keister, was born November 12, 1844 - a grandson of Frederick Barger and Sallie, nee Keister of Missouri, late from Blacksburg, VA. James was twice married, his first wife being Mary Sloan, of Belleview, Iron Co., MO. She died one year after marriage. In 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Ella Wilson of Moberly, MO. They lived at their farm home in the northern part of Iron County, at a place called Montana. Later, they moved to Ironton, MO. James P. Barger died there on the 12th of September 1918. Burial was at Ironton. He was a good neighbor and worthy citizen. Two children: Robert L., Ada B.

 

#2851 - page 215 Robert Lee Barger, son of James Preston Barger and his second wife, Ella, nee Wilson, of Iron Co., MO, was born October 20, 1883 - a grandson of Ballard Harvey Barger and Mary, nee Keister; descendant of Philip Barger, settler at Blacksburg, VA in 1755. "He began his education in the common schools. By close application and home study he prepared himself to teach, and for two years was engaged in that profession. In 1905, he entered the service of the St. Louis and Southwestern Railway Company as train auditor, and held that position for more than three years. In 1909 he returned to Ironton, MO, the county seat of his native county, and formed a co-partnership with D. Edgar Fletcher, under the firm name of Fletcher & Barger, which was to engage in insurance, real estate and banking. Also, in 1916, he entered the automobile business. He married, November 20, 1913, Miss Laura Codding of Ironton."
