LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, St. Francois Co. MO, Fri. July 13, 1928

MRS. T. J. BUCKNER

Catherine Buckner (nee Watts) was born on the beautiful Jonca creek in Ste. Genevieve County, Mo., 10 miles north east of Farmington on August 17, 1856; and died at her home in Farmington, July 4, 1928, age 71 years, 10 months and 17 days.

She grew to womanhood on her father's farm where she was born, and was educated in the schools of that time, which were quite primitive. Her father's farm joined my own father's farm, and we became acquainted in early childhood, and this acquaintance continued most pleasantly during all her life and her dying request was that this scribe should write her obituary because of our life-long acquaintance and warm friendship.

As this writer well knows, she spent much of her time in girlhood days helping her father on the farm, and her mother in the house, and thus became trained to be a useful woman.

When she became sixteen years of age she was converted and joined the Baptist Church at Three Rivers, and lived a consistent Christian life until her death.

On Dec. 31, 1882, she was married to Thomas J. Buckner, who proceded her in death 16 years ago.

She leaves two brothers, Monroe and W. Richard Watts, of Springfield, Ill., and two sisters, Mrs. Minerva Sheets, of Farmington, and Mrs. Newton Byington, of Eagle River, Wis.

She also leaves four children, Mrs. Charles Green, of Farmington, Mrs. Harry Sheets, of Alton, Ill., Robert Lee Buckner, of Desloge and Thos. J. Buckner, of Elvins, and 16 grandchildren.

Two sons, William B. and John Clinton, having preceded her in death several years, both dying while young men.

Funeral services were conducted at the Farmington Baptist church, of which the deceased was a member, by her pastor, Rev. J. W. Jeffries. Grandsons of the deceased acted as pallbearers and granddaughters as flower girls.

Mrs. Buckner was always kind and attentive to the needy and was always found where and when needed, among the needy and suffering. Her large circle of friends will sorely miss her.

We extend our sincerest sympathy to the dear ones left behind, whom this writer esteems most highly, too.

"How sweet to think that on our eyes,
A lovelier clime shall yet arise;
That we shall wake from sorrows dream,
Beside a pure and living stream."

Burial 5 Jul 1928 Parkview Cemetery, Farmington, Saint Francois, St. Francois, Missouri, United States of America
